A Weekend of Tango at Amherst College

OST whirled into western MA this past weekend, performing and teaching at the Five Colleges (thanks to Daniel Trenner for bringing us back!). On Saturday, Mari and Tilly led a workshop at Mt. Holyoke College called “Take it Apart and See How It Works: Tango Music From The Inside”, for musicians and dancers alike. Then on Sunday, the fun moved to Amherst College. Tilly and Carlos taught dance workshops before the band’s performance at the crowning milonga that evening. In between the band’s first and second sets, Carlos and Tilly got changed into flashier attire and performed as the featured dancers! Talk about multitasking—they went right back onto the bandstand after dancing up a storm, to roaring applause. Is it fair to call OST a festival in a box yet?

West Coast Tour Highlights

We had an absolutely amazing time touring California this fall! Our trip included stops in San Jose, San Francisco, LA, and San Diego, and in every city we were overwhelmed with lovely people, dancing, and (let’s face it) gorgeous weather.

There were too many highlights to list all of them here, but extra special nights included:

  • Performing an impromptu tango in the San Jose airport baggage claim!
  • An evening at San Francisco’s famed CELLspace, where Mari and Tilly also taught one of their “Not Another Musicality” workshops (check out the class summary that was posted on the Tango Student blog) and the band brought down the house to a packed floor.
  • Headlining at the West Coast Tango Marathon, where we also made history as the first live tango group ever to perform in the historic Balboa Park!
  • A special night of tango with Linda and her wonderful LA dancers at the La Brea Nightclub. We were honored to play for such fun, energetic dancers!

We’ve got even more details to share if you sign up for our mailing list!

Guerrilla Tango

OST takes it to the streets! We will be playing our music in Harvard Square on a few of these warm summer evenings. We won’t know our exact location until we show up, so we’ll post an update to our Facebook page. Looking forward to playing for dancers and passers-by.

Enter the Debuts

We have re-touched our website with a brand new design to help usher in our debug album! That’s right: Orquesta Sin Trabajo is releasing our brand new CD, “¡Viva Tango!” at a fantastic CD release party on April 19th! We’re so excited to have recorded some of our favorite tunes so you can take us home with you in between shows.
